My Recommendation for ecryptfs. Add Video or Image. All. 2.

eCryptfs is a POSIX-compliant enterprise-class stacked cryptographic filesystem for Linux. You can use it to encrypt partitions and also directories that don't use a partition of their own, no matter the underlying filesystem, partition type, etc. Since eCryptfs has to process keys and metadata on a per-file basis, it performs a little slower than dm-crypt on saturated reads and writes. Jun 17, 2018 · eCryptFS is about 75% the performance of LUKS and LUKS is hard to distinguish from bare metal. The swap is the one that really makes a difference when its comes to speed. I use blowfish for eCryptFS only because it is a different cipher than AES, so if one or the other is broken I still have some level of privacy left.

Note for future installs: you’d only want to have both if multiple people were using the same machine.
